State of the ServerSo guys, how's Gorath (and SWG in general) doing? Is it still in an ever-downward spiral, or has it picked up, and is the rp still good?

It is my belief that SWG has for some time steadied at somewhat of a baseline of addicts/fans that just can't bring themselves to leave I.e. the loyal contingent.
I do see the numbers dying somewhat as AoC and Warhammer are released. I don't think it will truly die out though. Games like DAoC and even the original EQ still have a small but loyal playerbase. SWG will have the same thing.

That is a reasonable expectation for a five year old game.

Thanks guys, I just didn't want to know SWG was completely screwed
So, if I join in the Summer, would there be more activity?

Depends on a lot of factors now in my opinion, dude.
Summer is a good time for mmorpgs; but you'll see pull from any existing game to the shiny new games for 1-2 months as they come out (if they're any good after launch.) Which means fewer people popping in across some of the servers with some taking bigger hits than others.
Not sure what to tell you about Gorath though. Other servers are booming (relatively speaking of course); but a few of us still struggle to even get a group together through out the day on Gorath. Depends on what you are looking for and what kind of consistency your looking for in it as well.
Not a big fan of the paid x-fer myself given SOE caused our population mess in my opinion; but at least don't judge it by one server alone when you get back in game. It might take hopping around a bit this time.

Speaking of shiny new stuff, is the Pre-CU EMU close to release? I'm fairly sure SWG's official servers will take a major hit when it comes out...

I thought it was an incredible idea when I first heard about it too. Classic Servers.
However seeing it as a "special group" interest project I wouldn't hold your breath on that one. The day that thing is actually up an running I think we'll have a new SW mmorpg on the market or a better mmorpg at any rate.
Not saying don't play it nor that it was a bad idea. But that thing isn't going to hurt what is left of SWG at all.

I've tried the EMU and loved it, it was still not finished but was a fun experience.

Is the EMU open to play, even thought it's not finished?

Its the end of the school year. At least it is closing in on it for many people. Server populations decrease as the schooltime crunches increase. If people can't find anything to do outside next month then the server should get busy. Personally, I have plenty to work on right now.

Well, being a highschooler myself, I plan to start a 3-month subscrip the day I get out of school.
Thing that sucks though, is that my dad doesn't quite appreciate MMO's and thinks they're a gateway to viruses. So he banned me from it. And that's why I'll be paying with a visa gift card, and only play from 9:00pm to 4:00am. XD
I think this summer will leave me dead tired. Oh well, SWG is the only game I will ever play for 60 hours a week.

Hate to say this, but if your dad thinks big company run pay for play MMOs are virus gateways, he might as well just not ever get on the internet ever. There's more chances to get a virus from relatively safe surfing, than you will ever have from SWG.

THANK YOU. I try to explain this to him so many times. I guess that's what I get for playing SWG so much that the trees in our yard died due to drought, lol.
He says they open up ports that would normally remain sealed. Is this true?

I suppose that is possible depending on how tight your security settings are on your firewall. but according to this there are no special ports to open for SWG.

I wish I understood what was being said, but ok.
In any case, I guess I'll need to get used to SWG till from 9pm 3am again, lol. All my friends are on then anyways.
