So, why dont you rp?If there is one phrase thats been around as long as "Iconic and star-warsy", its "Rp on Gorath is dead." So ive decided to ask the question, why dont you rp anymore? Please try to be as descriptive as possible. dont just say "I dont rp because its boring." Why is it boring?

I don't play SWG anymore because it does not have any life left in it and i guess some could say the same thing for roleplay on any of the SWG servers.

I DO RP on Gorath because we've got a nice little thing going with a free-flowing story.

I WOULD rp on Gorath if I had a subscrip.

Six words for a remedy: "Do you want fries with that?"

Heres another question. How would you get those amoung the community, and outside it, to get into rp, to bring in a fresh sence of perspective, and bolster our numbers?

I have been roleplaying, fairly continuously. When nifty new toys...uh, like the collections...come out, there usually is a slight break while the other roleplayers are trying out the toys.
That is the advantage of living in Nocturnus. Am currently in that freeflowing concept that Griven mentioned, with one of my toons. The other toon is still doing bump.into.people - instant.casual.roleplay. She is also involved in a slightly different roleplay project.
The roleplay is there. But you have to be around others to do it.

Cash isn't the issue, Griven. It's school. >_<
I'm a hopeless SWG addict. I was up till 3:00 AM most of the time in the summer. Lol.

That's the summer. You're supposed to be up until 3 am every day between the end of one school year and the beginning of the next. Enjoy it while you can.
And dammit, school may be important, but so is enjoying yourself. Apply a bit of self control to the situation, and only play SWG after you've finished homework or whatnot.

I play Garry's Mod 10 till 11:30 now. Not as good as SWG, but it floats my boat... for now.

I always RP. i am always my character. For me its not aout story arcs and such its about playing your character in whatever comes at you.
RP is actually very alive and well on SWG server, it just comes in many different forms and not everyones form is going to be somebody elses cup of tea.
Harcore, medium, light. These are ofeth terms used to describe RP but even within those areas it is very subjective.

I don't RP because i am enjoying playing the game right now.
I miss a lot of people online because of my playtime (most will remember i used to sleep, get up and go to scumbag, then sleep again)
It's a poor excuse using the time zone, but really right now there is too much stuff to play in game.
the RP is there IF you go and find it, hell you cold even RP yourself into the new Heroics or collection quests. I remember early on in my arrival on the server, me Mayth, Nyvveck and i think Eagee or Fed were going to get stims at Naboo base, but we turned it into a mini RP battle to assault the base and liberate it.
as for the "the server is dead" comments, i told one guy on the SOE boards my comment on that when he said that the server was gasping for it's last dying breath. asked him if he can gasp for his own

I RP when it finds me, I am not very good at seeking it out, and yes, right now I am trying to do the Gunship collection, so I am guilty of that.
When RP finds me, I do RP, otherwise I am probably not very good at making it happen..... guess I am RP lazy

Hey, the point of the game is to have fun. The PvE and PvP is easier to find, and much of it can be done solo. When you feel like RPing, it is there.
Most of us, when RPing, pay little attention to NocChat...because we are trying hard to keep up with the roleplay. So, you might have to shout to get our attention to find out where the action is.

This is really a reply to several similar threads. I choose this one because it seemed like the least volatile.
I can find RP whenever I feel like RPing.
I can find PvE whenever I feel like PvEing.
I can find PvP on those rare occasions that I want to watch a slide show.
I can do all this with, if not members of the community, then with members of the community as I see it.
I have not had this much fun in Galaxies since the NGE hit. If it feels like the community is ailing, it is probably not the fault of the community. It is the fault of the individual.
Go looking for it, and the RP is out there, almost constantly. Sit around and hope that it comes to you, and you'll probably experience less. In the half month I have had Nyvveck back in the game, I have been involved in two major story arcs, have RP'd casually almost every night, and on top of that have just started doing Heroic Encounters (thanks Vic!). I do not think I am special.
To clarify the above point, I have no problem with people asking on NocChat, "Hey, any RP going on?". Finding RP should not be a treasure hunt.

If I had faith that my satellite connection wouldn't wreck any attempts at RP, I might try again, BUT:
every time I consider that, I also recall how much trouble I had finding RP. I almost never leveled my toon, or collected fancy stuff, because in the time I was able to spend online I wanted to RP. All the other junk took away from precious RP time. So I did what I could to make a little money and buy some things to aid my RP, and then RP'ed when and where I could get it.
My stories ended up being a chopped up crazy mess because of this, but I took what I could get and didn't complain.
It came down to: poor connection + lack of available RP = no sub.

The RP is here, Whar. It's not the same RP as it used to be; it is more free-flowing and considerably less scripted. We play our characters, not ourselves, and we do it whenever.
That's one of the reasons I felt comfortable closing Schola. It was not being used by any of the newer people, and the elder people where all doing that be-your-toon.
I would also like to point out that there are people who are running arcs who cannot be ingame all the time. We keep their arcs in mind, and play to them when they can be ingame. We also use those arcs, when they are not ingame. Hojo's arc, for instance, has provided a macguffin for a new arc. The Massacre of the Mercs is still a background bit of unsolved violence that we discuss and possibly link to the Sample Collecting arc.
And the Replicant arcs, and the possession arcs still sit in the background, informing our suspicions about new things that pop up.

Hojo is gone, as in deleted, just in case no one knew. He didn't want to make a big to do about it. But it stands to reason anything going on with that arc is going to be Post-impromptu I'd imagine.
Whar, the game is getting there again. It really is. RP; can't really tell ya, dude. But I think if your looking for bustle rp that we had back at Tales and our early salvage the community re-start here at GC; your not going to find it on that scale. Small, pocket, RP is the name of the game from the looks of it.

*confirms*
Yes, Hojo is no more, RP-wise. The player is very busy with RL, and the toon has been deleted.

I think I heard about Hojo, what I don't get is deletion... I really don't understand the point of deleting the char, unless he just wanted to make sure he'd have trouble coming back... like it was an addiction or something.
|
Griven
|
I can believe the addiction thing. If I really wanted to make sure I'd never come back, I'd ice Griven.

I think it's just a solidifying way to say, "I'm done with this." Probably so you don't have your virtual stuff on your mind at all when you see the game box again.
We'll most likely see Hoj' again though in a new game. Who knows, we may see many that left in a new game again.
