possible board addition?with all of the current Gorath GC players also investing time and interest in SecondLife (a social user-created content MMO) i thought it would be an idea to post this question to the users of the boards once again...
my proposed idea is to include a board for Galactic Chronicles Meet and Greets in Secondlife, New Products that other members might find interesting or even irresistable, establish a place for possible RolePlaying in secondlife (including but not limited to star wars). and just general (omg look at her butt it is so big) posts. lol

I vote yes because I think we could support a SL forum now with a few of our lurkers here playing more on there than SWG.

It doesn't really matter to me either way. Whatever floats your boat, you know?
Second Life is an interesting game, sort of. But I find it rather boring. Maybe it's just me.
I think The Sims Online was a lot more fun.

For me I think I'd stay away because the game sounds like player content only with no... PvE as we know it in WoW, SWG, EQ, an' the like. That and the lag.
But watching Xfire... I've seen enough people on there to merit it.
I'd daresay we could put up a CS, 1/2 Life, or even a Battlefield board for a few of ya to share mods/share vent info, plan some group nights as well. But I'm prolly waaaaay ahead of myself. : p

I think we should limit ourselves to supporting certain types of games. Ones that have an environment that is condusive to RP. FPS games--although it is possible--don't really fall under that category, in my opinion.

I would agree with that. This IS a RP community afterall and FPS's just aren't RP conducive.
As with the creation of any board here, it is based on RP interest as well as population. I'd like to know how many people are actively playing SL. As much as it might be amusing to have an SL forum with nothing but Sharn talking about big bootys...I need a little more to go on.
Please just thow up a /sign if you are actively playing SL. Worse comes to worse, I can always throw on a SL sub forum in the Other Games area if you want to share mods, content, etc.

sounds like an ok idea. SL is....interesting...so far....

okay so shen wants to see active names. i say we give him active SL names.
im the first one to sign my name to that petition. as i was the first from tales and Galactic to be in both worlds.

edit:
for those that are curious. secondlife does feature large star wars, vampire the masquerade/WhiteWolf, and dungeons and dragons esque RP groups. some of the best roleplayers ive met are in SL. (after swg of course)
and it doesnt take 80+ hours to get a full suit of Mando

I love SL, it's like looking into people's imaginations and seeing what they can create. Crafting is a big attraction in SL, I've seen some rather talented people *grins*.

Nope.. plus wouldn't happen. I say we get rid of the "dead forums" and if we feel the need to add them back at a later date then so be it.
At this point I would have to agree with Shen about adding an SL board. If there are only a "few" people that are currently playing there is no real reason to have one up at this point. However, if there is enough interest I say go ahead and put one up and see how it goes. Or just add a sub-forum to the "other games" section where ppl can share tips and such.

I think this might be where all my pro-active "Let's add another forum" is comming from.
If you Mod something for Non-RPers in a RP community... well, aren't you kind of presenting RP to a group that might not have looked at it before? Exposure to me is a great thing if we can do it right. But, I do agree, think I'm just wanting us to Be All That We Can Be; In The Arrrrr *cough* Internet.
Guess it just helps for other's to know what Batty is thinkin' sometimes.

batty. note.. i did primarily say to encourage the RP community in SecondLife. there is a great big community there. though 90% of it does force slavery, pedophilia etc.

I will most likely be playing it more pretty soon.
I'm still learning the basics of the game and it runs kind of slow on my ancient machine, but I'm still there.

I havnt tried SL. I have heard a lot of mix stories about it. Some of them very good. Some of them very bad.
I voted...
this is a bad idea, i beleive that GC shouldnt cater to games that dont include the following: hack and slash, and mindless grinding
Just because it made me laugh. hehehe.
|
Sharn_Musashi

games that are just hack n slash grinding do limit us in our freedom of expression in RolePlay. for example..
Sharn Musashi, a vampire from the clan Assamite enacts her revenge of her childer being destroyed by a human hunter. while fighting this person she gourges herself on his blood. her clothes are completely drenched in the vitae of her victim. the sickening squish of his body hitting the floor makes her realize.. that she'd best get out of the area.
leaping away quickly she uses her discipline Obfuscate to dive into the shadows to hide from those that would destroy her.. when she comes out.. by force of the Umber. she comes face to face with a WereWolf... the snarling vicious construct of gaia lunges at her. destruction ensues. the two warriors knock eachother around with heavy blows... until the Vampiric Dominatrix is impaled on a sharp obstruction of metal. the were-creature bears down on her for its kill. to rid this one place of the stench of the wyrm...
now in terms of ingame abilities.. these two nemesi would be able to duke it out. with martial arts and huge sweeping attacks. hiding in the shadows could be done with things like cloaking fields and animations.
even the star trek community has found RP refuge in SL (somewhat limited i might add) but still. the untapped potential for RP in secondlife. mingled and added to our SWG/WoW/ ever-crack stories might be a unique opportunity. one i personally feel that our community. given the number of our own people that are in SecondLife. we'd be fools to not consider seriously

I agree with you that "hack and slash" does limit rp.
It seems like a lot of roleplayers depends WAY TO HEAVILY on game mechanics.
They are either affraid to use /emote or just like the idea that they can "pwn" anyone if they need too.
An example being when people found out I was the RD leader but not CL90. I got a lot of tells basicly saying "How can you be a master if your not 90?"
That really annoyed me because I dont think a darn number next to your name should dictate your ic position. If you can play the role well then why should it matter?
|
Sharn_Musashi
|
i agree. for example people dont look at sharn as a threat because she is blind.
which is the reaction i wanted IC when i was injured. because now i dont have eyes i cant fight.
but another example of it being effective..
yourself iafeu. leader of RD because you worked for it. admirably i might add. you deserved it when you wherent nintey

This is true....You have no idea how many times I have had this conversation...
/tell <person> Please pretend you dont see a name floating over everyone's head, cause, in RP, they are not really there, unless of course you really do see them, in which case, let me have whatever it is you have been smoking!
If someone walks up to me in RL and pulls a gun, im gonna look at it and treat it as a real gun in my RP. Now, granted, if the person is like, CL 13, im prolly gonna be able to tell they dont know much about using the gun, just by the way they hold it, I dont really consider that metagaming. If you are a low CL, you prolly dont know how to use a weapon very well...Or am I the only person that thinks that?
I know that, when I was a low CL, I RP'd that I was not able to hold a gun well.
/emote quickly pulls a gun on you, but, from the way he holds it, you can tell he has does not have much experience fighting with it.
something along those lines.

Although hack n slash games may limit RP to some extent for some people, a game like SL limits those who want physical conflict.
I could be very mistaken, but to the best of my knowledge, there isn't any kind of combat system that's actually built into the game, and works well. I'm sure there are a few areas that allow this sort of interaction, but it would be rather annoying to get into an argument in one part of the world, and have to go, "/tell whoever Hey, I want to hit you, teleport to this place where we can fight."
That's almost as annoying as /duel.
But I could be wrong. And I still voted that we should add the forum.

Nothing is built in to SL, except what people build in via scripting, etc. There are combat systems but there doesn't seem to be a standard. You can, however, take damage in some sims, in some you can only be "pushed". The player created weapons are pretty cool, from Glocks to compound bows to nuclear tipped ICBM's. However, in general in SL, there are no points, leveling, mindless grinding...it's all about imagination and forcing people into submission with bondage gear and...oops, getting distracted. Anyway, it's not a bad world, although sometimes the lag is horrid, as the developers still haven't got things 100%. And oddly enough, it favors AGP cards over PCIe. And shopping is fun

Yeah, the focus on bondage and the like is a bit distracting, if not a wee bit disturbing inside of a game.

It's not rampant though
And SL isn't a game /bonk
It's an online world created and owned by it's users, for the purpose of commerce and creativity. And bondage. Er, I meant bonding.

It does sound like a good RP venue though. Perhaps a sub-forum to start them off and see where it goes?
