need 1337 tractor...I need help picking a mower.
Wife says the 154 LO BOY is too big:
(kinda looks like that with a mower deck)
it sports a 5ft (60in) mowing deck, 15hp and has an engine I am pretty familiar with (I am good at working with IH stuff)
She wants me to get the 1440 garden tractor:
It has a 42 in deck, 14hp, and an engine that I know little about.

the 1440 is owned by the previous owner of the house we just bought, and he is asking $1100 for it.
The Lo Boy is owned by a tractor salesman back home. My dad, uncle, and grandpas have dealt with him, and he is practically a family friend. I really like doing business with him. He is asking $1500 for it. It is a much larger tractor though.

For the extra $400 I'd go with the big'un. Lawns mowed faster courtesy of a faster machine and much bigger mower deck and I don't know where you live, but the big ones also make pretty decent plows during the winter.

It really depends on your yard size, time, and personal preference. If you like the big one, and you have a sizable yard, go for it.

looks like the Lo Boy by a landslide.
I have to say, so far my wife is the only one who has opposed getting the bigger tractor.

Does she think that she may have to use it? I know I would prefer the smaller one because I can see me chasing after the larger one and it heading for the neighbor's cars.
Sort of, unintentional ghost mowing.

I say LO BOY!
Of course, I can maybe see the other point of view if you've got a small yard and a big honkin' mower! LoL.
However, knowing how to work on the engine in advance and thinking of how much more time and money you might save by getting the yard done a little faster might be good enough incentive to just go LO BOY.
To boot you can promice to show the wife how to use it!
Er, yeah, .....and stuff.

She already stated that if I got it she wouldnt be using it. But... to be honest she has never mowed, nor intended to mow. She used the weedeater once, because she thought it looked fun.
I have plenty to do once we move:
My old truck (or rather, little brother) needs restoring.
Dad has a lawn tractor he wants me to resurrect.
I am trying to talk a relative into letting me resurrect his antique tractor.
Want to dam up a place for a pond.
clear some trees and erect a small pole barn.
lofty goals.

I had a piece of '60 bamboo, so I decided I would stop over and walk around the areas and trails I would have to cover with this mower. I found that the area would be okay for the Lo Boy. What I didn't expect to find was these little bastards:
I got back to the house and realized I had to use the bathroom really bad (takes about 20 minutes to get home from there, and the previous owner was gracious enough to let me access the place before they are completely out) While I am sitting there I notice my ankles are itching like crazy. I figured I wandered into some poison ivy, but when I noticed all these tiny specks moving around I started freaking out.
at first I thought they were some kind of sand flea, or baby spiders. Then I looked close enough to notice the little hook shaped legs moving around. I thought I had tracked through a nest of baby dog ticks, but a call to the kind gentleman that had been all through those woods revealed their true identity.
At least they weren't lice. At one point I thought they might be, since I have never seen a louse before.
Edit: BTW the ones that were on me were no bigger than a grain of salt.

this is more along the lines of what I encountered, only I had about 5000 of them on me.

Since you guys had a hand in causing me to get this...
now I expect you all to volunteer to help me fix the darned clutch!
Here's the truck before I broke the frame:
the frame finally gave out on me this spring. I had a local guy weld on a new frame around the old one, and replace some of the cross-supports. After about 3 months of working on it, it is back in full service.
last week in "the pit":
I think my brother was peeing over there.
here's the covenant militia all together:

LOL! you can stop voting! I already bought the LO BOY. It's the one in the picture with the turkeys.
Maybe I will go out and take a picture of the tractor and the truck sometime, instead of just catching them in pictures of other stuff.
I also apologize for the bottom two pics, they were taken with my friends phone, and are kinda blurry.

I'm still going to toss in a vote for the 1440. Just for the hell of it.

heh, that almost looks like the Jeep's front wheel is on the trucks... if it is im blind then....
But.. back when My dad was pretty much the leader of a jeepin' group.. we had 3 jeeps with one of their tires backed up onto the others, and it was cool..... or there was one jeep in the middle with two others backing their tires on it.... something like that.
If I can find the photo ill try and put it up...

no, they are just on piles of rocks. The other truck is my brother's. It's a Jeep J10. He actually blew the radiator the next day and is having trouble finding a replacement.
There are all kinds of pictures of people driving up on other people's tires on 4x4 websites.
My truck has a little while to go before I am done working on it (probably will NEVER finish) I still have to paint it, change the piston rings, get a new (4" lift) suspension. After the suspension is on I might get a set of mudders or tractor tires to put on it when I go out.

Trust me, get the biggest deck you can. Where I live, everyone has a big yard. I have a 20 year old Troybilt, 33", and it takes me about 2.5 hours to cut about 0.8 square miles of land. The extra horsepower will also help with speed.
Crap, I remember when it broke down and I hat to use an 18". It took me 8 hours, lol.
