Mounted Combat

By Crom!
Jaminos

I am glad to know it will not be just a means of transportation. I could not see myself riding anything exotic. I would probably go with a horse.  But just the fact I can fight and trample foes has a certain temptation to it. I could only imagine what a Mammoth would do.

This made me chuckle a bit, but it will most certainly be ammusing.

About time they put Joust into a mmorpg!  smile

I'm gonna spend over 1,400 on a new computer for this game...it will have Vista on it for the wonder that is directX 10.  Top of the line video card and over 4 gigs of memory.  The game will not fail me or I will surely dissmantle Jaminos, starting with his teeth and ending with his toe-nails.

Before you spend all that money Fed, realize that mounted combat doesn't mean that you can ride Nyv into combat.

I'm still awaiting more info on the casting part of the game.  You'll notice they didn't mention it at all in the mounted combat section (which I can understand, as I can't think of any bonus you'd get for casting while riding...but will casting have anything to compare to the melee of the game?)

From what I have read, casting is it's own ballgame. Same goes for ranged combat.  I am curious how it works too. I can only imagine it would be difficult trying to cast while riding into combat.

What sucks is you have to enter your age to view the content apparently.  So I start I click "A" for April "1" twice for 10, and then I click "1" again in the year to bring up the 1900's so I can scroll down to my birthday but it selects 1999 as the default and ends there kicking me out because I'm not old enough.  The bugger wouldn't let me scroll from there, that's a pisser.

I was struck with the image of a Herald of Xotli (the class I most likely will go) fighting atop a horse.  Granted, I don't know just what the "demon" he turns into looks like, but I was picturing something like this on top of a horse...

All you need is Ride of the Valkyries playing and you will be set.

Sorry to burst your bubble but currently the demon and animal transformations aren't really transformations... a totem appears and you get stat bonus' or something.

Been watching this to, hopefully will get into the beta at some point.  Fed, I wouldn't go out and drop that kind of $ for Vista until service pack 2 or your going to be a very unhappy camper.  DX10 alone just isn't worth it yet considering the bugs in vista.

Now, as far as mounted combat goes...this is something that should have been in almost every MMO that had personal transportation.  Ultima Online actually did have mounted combat (i.e. you could fight while riding a horse) so it's not an untouched resource.  I remember we used to have jousts in game like 7/8 years ago, and it was fun =)

I just hope this game is as good as the hype is making it, we don't need another dull WoW copy.

There tend to be hypes about a lot of games and the only way to know if it was justified or not is looking at the same game six to twelve months post release. Hence I don't care about the hypes whatsoever. I do, however, tend to look at the general vision of the game the developers present. If it correlates with what I look for in a game I will give it a chance no matter what other people may have to say about said game.

In this case I haven't taken the time to get into the game mechanics, and only watched screenshots and some reviews of small features. However, even if it were to be an exact copy of WoW it would still be so much better because the visuals are so much more interesting. The graphics, and especially the graphical 'style' of this game really attract me, while the style of WoW graphics repulses me.
