Idea: Planned random RPA thought I had, was planned spots for random RP...planned random you say, well let me explain.
A set schedule, for each day, where random RP can be encountered. These planned functions would be moved to different cities or locations on a daily basis, but always stay the same, week to week.
A 2 - 3 hour window would be opened, that you could go to a location and expect to see others with the same goal in mind at this location. No set story, or arc. Dress and act accordingly depending on the location. Not manditory, but if your hungry for RP, you know where to find it.
Beyond different player cities, there are many locations in game where it would be fun to do this.
Think this is possible? Or is it just stupid?

As a side note, the amount of people that show for this to be called a success, in my mind is atleast 2-3. I would hope for alot more, but I wont set unattainable goals either

This isn't a stupid idea at all.
However, right now, I don't know if the community has an active enough population and a common enough playing schedule to support this.
A year ago, I don't think there would be an issue with this being problematic. Ideally if we have a lot of people with similar schedules and compatible RP-styles this would work great.
Now, I am not saying this shouldn't be tried, just that it might not work as well as it could under better circumstances.

Well, I am being more of the mindset of, "if you build it, they will come". My hope would be that if we had a set schedule it would be a bonus to attarcting people in game, new people to the boards, and older GC people that may have drifted off the path.
I totally agree that right now, the community could not sustain a large rp group on a daily basis. But me personally, if I knew that between such and such a time at the Cantina on whatever planet there was RP, I would go hang out there if I could, in the hopes of finding some.

I'm game, I like the idea. Let's do it.
Where do we start? Timing?

I wish we could do a calendar on this forum... but anyways. We need to guage the best times for this, that it would work.
Currently, for me personally, later is better, later being 9pm central or later. If people want to suggest times, do so here, if we have to I can set a poll.
Dont tell us days, because days dont matter, this will be a daily ongoing thing. Agin tho, not manditory.

9 works for me. I won't be able to make every day, but I'll be able to make it some days.

That would be the point
We can discuss locations now if you like too.

How about Nym's cantina?

That is a good one, lets get some others, would love to see 7 different locations for each day. An in game schedule can be sent out to help out with remebering, and I am not apposed to any of the player cities in the community.
I would like some of the higher end planets too, like a cantina on Dant or Dath.

Coronet sticks out.
We've never tried Mos Taike.
Rancher's House on Tat.
Camps (Maybe near the Old Man).
Storyteller Set Ups at "x" location.
Have a few others on my mind but I'll spit those out later.

Alot of planets have nice cities that go unused, so any of those, although as suggested, moving away from the cantina might help freshin things up as well.
The idea of using storyteller might work as well, just need to pick an open waypoint that things can be set up, you could set a theme, have everyone bring stuff of their choosing and set up and go.
Would like to try some of the lesser used spots, Toche Station, the Jawa village place (whatever the name is) ALot of stuff to tap into. Maybe each day a different planet, and after time, the location can be switched up.

Given what's happened so far, with the Nova Star's people going to just two unvisited spots, using lesser known places is an excellent idea.

Ord Mandell Space Station would be a good place, dangerous to get to, but would be fun none the less.

/grin, how about we try space stations later, and concentrate on the easier to get to places first?

It wouldn't be that hard to reach the space station... your forgetting about the Non-Aggro freebie Space Yacht we all have/got.
Pretty sure the same still applies for Avatar though your looking at a limited group size for that anyway once your on board.

Avatar or other instances dont really fit the bill for this, although the RP_PvE events are fun too, these are more random encounter events. Mostly for just straight RP fun.

Can we inventory what we have?
I mean, what guilds do what, who still plays on a regular/semi-regular basis, what is the base of what we have to build on, or re-build or however you want to put it.
We need to define where we are before we go defining where we want to go.
I see only a few people posting in this thread. So are only those going to attend these random events? It may not be a ton of work, but still work to put in to set up these random events, and only a few people show up.
And on top of inventory and what we have as a base, what does that base want to focus on in going forward.
You know, what do people want to see and be part of?
Reb vs. Imps? - GCW stuff
Players vs. game - RP all these random events and instances
Space Events
Social Events
PvP Events
etc...
I mean we can go on and on with the ideas, but we need to know want people will be a part of? If it starts with 3, like you said, if you build it they will come. But we need to be building the right stuff too!

You have a point, Cymrych. It would be nice to some hard data. However, that hard data is kinda hard to come by.
Here's my personal hard data:
I'm interested in roleplay. I have two toons: One religious, one Ent/assassin. Both have defined characters, and both are in it for the roleplay. PvE and PvP are ok, as long as it is IC.

This is why, for starters, places already set up would be best for these random encounters, so they dont depend on having a certain number of people show up.
But you are right, the number of replies to this and other threads is concerning.

With all the possibly good ideas in this thread, I suggest starting with a single meeting place, for a week or so, before adding more. Until you have a base of people interested, everyone could show up at different ones and never bump into each other.
The usual method for random-planned RP is to ask on Noctchat. If Noctchat is included in this, why have meeting places, in the first place?
I assume it isn't, so I'd stick with a single locale, until it gets rolling.

I am going to scout some spots, post the waypoints and go from there, as I said it will be random, people will show, or they wont. S&V shows why I wouldn't keep it in the same place, it would get old fast.
Once I scout out some places I will post a schedule that should make it easy to find, those that are hungry for fresh RP will show up.

I recall we had an event at Nym's once, I thought that was a great place.
I don't know how high traffic it is there. Probably will be greifers anyway.

Traffic really isn't much an issue in most places these days

Are they still pretending it's too much to cluster?
I guess they don't realize the amount of money they could save. If they knew they would have already done it... unless there's some plan in the works to get that WoWish population they've been shooting for.
Some people are too happy beating a dead horse to realize there's glue to be made.
