If your releatives wouldn't have fought so hard, you would know how.

Most of mine fought in the Pacific.
There's a few things that can help you out when interacting with the Germans.
RP that you don't know their species' language, and have to use a primitive translator to speak to them. Use a second computer (or alt+tab, or use extended desktop) to use babelfish and turn out some phrases.
Some of the words are hard to translate, or aren't spelled the same. So sometimes you just wont understand. If there is someone who speaks both languages around you can have them translate pertinent information.
Really RP'ing with the language barrier is probably more realistic than RPing with english speaking folks all the time.

Great ideas, Whar.
That brings up the question: How long until they get sick of waiting for you to translate, or get sick of reading your broken Germglish?

before that happens you usually can figure some of it out without the translator.

I have always found Germans to be very patient with us English speakers. Also, they enjoy the humor of misspoken words as much as we do. What is lost in translation is often made up in friendship.

Well no...
I won't say much more but the german rp com is a double edged sword.
@Cymrych Events like this occur almost every week. Maybe Evron is man enough to organize such an event in english at a european and american friendly time.
Seems that I'm a member of ISF, if you need any more information just let me know.

Yeap, from what Dasi has told me. They've no more got their crap together anymore than us and experience the same problems. That double edged sword. It probably just is not as apparent to us since there is the communication barrier at times.
What we do get is tolerance of a different culture through that language barrier as Warsloth and Xyryn have pointed out though. So, we mostly only see the good stuff so to speak.
I can't count the number of times many Euro players who don't speak English as their primary language apologize for their grammar. Some of us can't even speak another language beyond English; and sometimes that is only bad English at that. Or that annoying short hand/leet speak stuff. : )

too true. A while ago i was invited to go on the tusken heroic encounter, they got me on their TS and purposley all spoke english just for me.. half way through i asked them not to and to speak german, and just relay to me in english where necessary, but i will never forget that compliment from complete strangers
