...and the man who runs the planet we live on.
While some if not alot of the info here would not be known by our characters, it does give us an idea of what the goverment would be like.
One of the things that struck me was that Nym was pardoned of his past crimes by Chancellor Palpatine. Allowing Nym to continue his piracy as well. So, not only does Nym run Lok, but he runs it with the Emperor's blessing as well.
To me, What does that mean to us players?
While Nym has sympathies towards the Alliance. The pardon keeps the empire off his back for the most part and lets him operate freely.
Well, for the Imperial that wants to throw his weight around with the backing of the Empire, well, Nym has the backing of the Empire too. In fact. in the form of a pardon from the Emperor himself and a pool of sulfuric acid hides the evidence of a body pretty well and allows for an undisputed version of Nym's alibi.
For the Alliance player or anyone else that may be hunted by the empire? Nym may just need to prove he's loyal to the Empire after that last tragic incident where the Imperial Colonel fell in that pool of sulfuric acid. Nym may have sympathies towards the alliance, but you had better hope that he likes you more alive than dead and serving another purpose.
On to the info.
Lok
Lok is a desert planet similar to Tatooine and Geonosis. It is not far from Naboo.
One of the first planets in the Karthakk system to be colonized, the harsh world of Lok was originally home to outlaws, who saw the world as a potential staging ground for raids into the Mid-Rim. Over time, Lok became known as a "pirate world," where anarchy and violence were the only constants.
Lok has fairly varied terrain, ranging from the dangerous sulfur pools to bubbling lava pits. The landscapes are generally foreboding: jagged mountain ranges, long expanses of baked desert, and desolate flats are typical environments on Lok. The presence of pirates and others is evident in the shipwrecks, burned-out bases, abandoned settlements, and destroyed vehicles that litter the planet.
Before the Battle of Naboo, one of the most prominent leaders on Lok was a Feeorin pirate named Nym. They made their base in a large crater on the surface.
Eventually, the settlement attracted the attention of the Trade Federation, who proceeded to chase the pirates from the surface, destroying their base in 32 BBY.
After the defeat of the Federation in 19 BBY, Nym rebuilt his home, and Lok continued to be a safe haven for rogue groups, such as the Alliance to Restore the Republic.
He is now a local crime lord, but it is also rumored that he is very sympathetic to the Rebellion...
Lok is also home of the Kimogilla creature.
The Lok Revenants
The Lok Revenants were a group of pirates operating out of Lok in the Karthakk system during the decade leading up to the Clone Wars. The Revenants were led by the pirate captain Nym.
The Lok Revenants were loyal to Nym, and aided the pirate captain on many raids against the Trade Federation. They defended Nym's base on Lok from a large invasion force, and though eventually overwhelmed, the Revenants regrouped and continued the fight. The Federation was struck a big blow at the Battle of Naboo, but still remained a sizeable presence in the Karthakk system. For the next ten years, the Revenants waged war with the Federation.
It was not until Jedi Master Adi Gallia intervened that the tide began to turn. By now, the Revenants were joined by Sol Sixxa and the Mere Resistance, and launched an assault against the heavily-defended factory world of Nod Kartha. They later participated in the battle over Geonosis, helping to defeat Captain Cavik Toth and his Hex fleet. Ultimately, Nym's forces recovered their base on Lok, and Nym remained in contact with Master Gallia.
Though the battle droids were shut down at the end of the Clone Wars, the Revenants continued their role as defenders of the Karthakk system. During the Galactic Civil War, Nym and his forces operated out of a large fortress on Lok.

Lok Pirate's Cant
Lok Pirate's Cant was an artificial language developed by pirates and mercenaries living on planet Lok during the Old Republic.
It was an specialized language, so it could not be used in all the situations or to convey all kinds of informations.
Nym
this Feeorin was known as a pirate who ambushed ships from a secret base on the Naboo System, although the base's location was never discovered.
Nym was orphaned on the planet Lok as an infant, and was raised by harsh criminals and pirates. He developed into a fearsome fighter, not because he was overly violent, but because he was swift and effective. Nym was known as a tactical genius as well as a scoundrel, and his piracy of Trade Federation convoys earned him a considerable bounty.
When regular channels failed to bring him into custody, the Federation hired Vana Sage to capture Nym. She was able to lure Nym and his crew into a trap when they tried to sell off a load of experimental Scalp-Hunter blasters they obtained from the Trade Federation. Despite her success, Nym's crew soon rescued him from the Federation's control. He returned to Lok to fight the Trade Federation's occupation of his homeworld, but nearly lost everything he owned.
Nym piloted his ship, the Havoc, during the Battle of Naboo, helping the Naboo break the Trade Federation's blockade and helping restore trade to the system. Athough he was never monetarily rewarded, a full pardon of his past crimes from Chancellor Palpatine allowed Nym to continue his piracy as well. He returned to his adopted homeworld of Nym, only to find it still under the control of the Trade Federation. He spent the next few months on Bothan Space, biding his time to return home.
Six years after the Battle of Naboo, Nym was hired by the Mere Ambassador Loreli Ro, to help her people overthrow the Trade Federation's control of Maramere. Nym relunctantly agreed to help, but found himself fighting Sol Sixxa's forces as well as the Trade Federation. In the end, though, Nym, convinced Sol Sixxa to join forces with him, and the two set out to destroy the Federation.
In the wake of the Battle of Naboo and the Clone Wars, Nym returned to Lok and became the leader of his people. Nym remained hidden on Lok for many years, as the Empire rose to power and began patrolling the spacelanes. If the price was right, he would sometimes support the actions of the Alliance, although he refused to commit to one side or the other during the Galactic Civil War.
He was considered more cunning and shrewd as he grew older, and was revered by his people during the height of the New Order. It was rumored that he kept several possessions of an old friend, the Jedi Master Adi Gallia, in his hidden retreat on Lok.
Nym's Hovel
this was the name given to a large asteroid located in the Spine of Lok. It was believed that the pirate Nym maintained a base on the asteroid at some point in time, thus earning it the name Nym's Hovel. After Nym established his base of operations on Lok, the Hovel was reserved for use as a sort of prison, where Nym could hold his enemies.

I don't know that I'd call a pardon for past crimes imperial backing...it doesn't excuse any of the crimes committed since the pardon...lucky for him he just hasn't been caught again....yet. _________________ Forum guarded by Blast Cannons three days a week. Guess which days.

True, but what happens on a backwater planet like Lok probably isn't worth the risk to the Emperor, of having to deal with the Rebellion and Nym. Smarter to let his antics go until the Rebellion is crushed, then he could focus all his forces on Lok if need be. _________________

Dancers too, would be shooting from the roof tops. But I'd be careful about those dancers, they can't shoot straight. _________________ "It is. Deal with it." |

Thats ok, there would be enough Imperial troops that all you have to do is fire into the crowd and you'd hit someone, lol. Besides, thats why they invented Grenades...you only have to be close _________________

I do see Nym playing both sides.
I do see an Imperial throwing his weight around on Lok having the same results as a English Officer doing the same in a Spanish pirate port. |

Yeah, I was thinking of a Letter of Marque. But Nym is not the only pirate on Lok and the possibility of Otto covertly sanctioning a pirate group is very likely. |
