Clickified
If the news is anything to go by we could be looking at the possible pick up of the game again. With Marvel canned, which Cryptic was working on, and the interviews kicking in from some of the previous STO team mounted with the, and I'll stress, rumor a studio was picking up the game after the Perpetual debacle... this could be a flickering green light again.
But only time will tell. _________________

Currently the only solid rumor evidence that Cryptic Studios is the Bay Area company that may be picking up STO can only be speculated on because of the recent interviews of previous P2 Developers that were working on the project.
I'm not too enthused by rumor but I wouldn't be surprised if we see something drum up from this in the form of an official press release in a year or two. If it pans out to be what everyone is thinking.
There is no longer anything up at http://www.startrekonline.com/ however the fact that the site is still there is possible cause for hope. _________________

Just in case anyone is still reading I'll just use this thread for our "rumor" mill news until we get something official.
There are many articles popping up about the further possibility that our STO is still a bun in the oven. This all relates to a Febuary 21st at the Game Devlopers Conferance in which Jack Emmert, Chief Creative Officer at Cryptic Studios, gave an interesting talk about using episodic content in the morning's first round of GDC sessions. During this talk, Emmert mentioned the recently announced Champions Online as well as what he called "a secret sci-fi project."
According to sources at the conferance, Emmert was wearing a sweatshirt that read "STARFLEET ACADEMY" across the front. Emmert also emphasized "secret sci-fi project" with some fairly large Air Quotes.
It doesn't confirm squat. Let us keep that in perspective. But with the pairing of this and interviewing and possible hiring of the Development team that was originally working on it at P2 we could be looking more and more at the resurrection of our Warp Engines to Boldly go where no one has gone before...

Cryptic has their hands full with Champion Online atm, so I doubt they will pick it up unless they feel they can make it into a hit game. _________________

You could be right. But keep in mind they've already said they are, in fact, working on a sci-fi mmorpg now. That'll get just as much attention as Champion Online. But it is only rumor and cloudy perceptions that point at them having picked up STO.
My only concern is that with Marvel having already been scrapped and Champion yet to come out; it would probably take the knowledge of the original Dev team (if they wind up salvaging code) to get STO done. So, I'm still cautious about the "fresh" start the game could get no matter what company does wind up with it. _________________

Was just re-reading some of the wiki information on STO and it garners up about everything we can safely say is currently known by anyone outside of any developers about the title.
The only oddity is that there at least appears to be confirmation that the license was indeed transferred to another Bay area development studio. This assumes though that whom ever entered the wiki info wasn't going rumor mill rampant. If that much is true then it would lend a little bit more to Cryptic possibly having it; but not being in full swing with developing it.
The entire picture while up in the air and a little fuzzy looks a little more clear though.

This is just a Batty guess, of course, but I'm thinking as soon as we see Champions polished out a bit we'll probably see a follow up Press Release to confirm what the "secret" sci-fi project is they've got their hands on. Without the code though this does mean we're looking at the game starting completely back at square one. That means we probably wouldn't see this thing in Beta till around 2010 at a guess. _________________
