The white robed Kiva finishes brewing her tea, pours it into the prepared mug, and walks over to the futon. As she sits, she raps the large skull in front of the futon with her ring.
"Skull, we have had several interesting conversations, today."
Kiva xyryn eyes the skull as if she expects an inquiry from the long dead creature. She sips her tea and places her bare feet on the skull, crossing her ankles. For a long moment, she contemplates the painting on the far wall.
"Yes. Two warnings we get...one from Ryker to not trust the Good Doctor, Corinthos..."he lies using the truth", and one from Doctor Corinthos about Ryker not being what he seems."
Another pause, another sip of tea.
"Now, I can easily believe that Daygrah lives on in Ryker, as a part of him. Remember Lord Shensen? However, I can just as easily believe that Daygrah lives on in Corinthos, as a part of him, too. Flip a coin. Perhaps...perhaps, both suppositions are true."
She tilts her knees to one side so she can better look at the empty eye sockets of the large skull.
"And, let us not forget, Daygrah...or something that looks and feels very much like Daygrah, still walking among the living. And, if I read that one correctly, he hunts."
Xyryn sips, and thinks, until the tea is almost gone.
"And Skull, the Goddess is awake. I don't like that. When She wakes, things happen, not nice things. Does she cause them, or does she just watch? Yes, she helped Hojo...I think...but that hasn't played out, yet."
The woman lowers her feet to the floor, "Why is it She wakes when the jedi and sith are involved? Are they part of Her Plan?"
As the lavender Twi'lek stands, she adds the ritual phrase, "Whatever that is." _________________ "It is. Deal with it." |

Xyryn finishes brewing the tea, and pours a mug. She turns and looks at the large skull that serves as footstool and confidant.
"This is going to be a tricky, Skull. Someone tried to burn the Imperial who runs the Angel."
The white-robed Twi'lek crosses to the futon couch. As she sits, she raps the skull with her ring, then leans back and puts her feet, crossed at the ankles, on the polished bone.
"By the time I arrived at the crime scene, there were two other people there ... an unfortunate gathering. They were only trying to help, but they will be considered suspect by the High Inquisitor and that might derail the official investigation."
Xyryn sips at the tea, frowns at Skull.
"You see, they were Zero and Hashum. The High Inquisitor considers one a criminal and the other a known rebel. However, they discussed the possibilities of what might have been the purpose behind the attack, and they might have been right."
She pulls up to memory the various discussions she has had since the incident beside the Angel.
"Skull, the assassin was wearing shock trooper armor. Now, if Xen'ya is remembering correctly, he shoots at Esharra, engulfing her in flame, then shoots at her pet which is trying to attack him. Xen'ya goes forward, frankly as likely to protect the animal as the woman, runs into the assassins ourstretched fist, falls flat on her back, hears the assassin run back in the direction from which he came...around to the front of the Desert Angel. Now, according to Onissosk, who thinks he was probably on his Spot inside the Angel at the time of the attack, the shock trooper armor does not enter the cantina.
"Xen, who has not lost conciousness, goes over to Esharra, sees the burns, and runs to fetch me from the stillroom. She has to run south to do that, but she notices no one. She gives me a hurried account of what happened, as I pull an icebag out of the fridge for her beginning bruise.
"According to Zero, he is travelling south from the Scum Bag to the Desert Angel. He does not see anyone until he spots the body, and goes over to investigate. According to Hashum, he is walking through the plaza when he sees Zero either approaching or bending over a body which Hashum assumes is a corpse. He walks over to the scene, and I come running around the corner of the Angel.
"We see that Esharra is alive; Zero pulls his two-man skiff closer, and we load her on it. I am unaware that he doesn't know his way around town, and instead of heading to the hospital which is just two blocks away, he speeds off to the Avant Clinic. Hashum and I run after him.
"We manhandle Esharra into the bacta tank. Then the two men, instead of leaving, began to discuss the possible reasons for the attack."
Taking a long slow sip from the mug, Xyryn orders her thoughts. She remembers the conversation at the Avant Clinic, the give and take of ideas of the two men, obviously strangers to each other but not strangers to the machinations of conflicting interest groups. Their only facts were the recuperating woman in the bacta tank and Xen'ya's description of white armor with coattails...what they called shock trooper armor. They also used the supposition that since neither of them had seen anyone as they entered town, the perpetrator had fled south.
"Now, Zero extended protection to Dee, when she was running the Angel. I asked him, Skull, and he has not done so for Esharra, but claims to respect her. I could hear no untruth in his words. She has also not crossed him in any way that I can find. He has a reputation for, um, meting out punishments in accordance with the severity of the offense against him. Believe me, I would know of any offense that meritted burning to death."
Smiling, the lavender kiva reviews the reasoning of the two men.
"Skull, they dismissed as senseless the idea that the perp was an actual trooper, an idea that Esharra later also dismissed. That left the culpret masquerading, maybe on orders of someone else."
Xyryn smiles as she remembers the surprise of both men that there is now a town south of Nocturnus, both men had been unaware of Ft.Nova.
"As the conversation progressed, they speculated on the possibility of either a trap or a diversion being set in Nocturnus...a trap to lure in more Imperials as ready targets, or a diversion to distract attention from something that Nym might be planning. They focused on Nym, because of the possible Ft. Nova connection. But there is another possible entity that might need a diversion ... the Rebellion.
"So, a diversion is a distinct possibility, Skull. I'll put out feelers around the Stronghold, see if there is any excitement there. But, I no longer have any known people in the Rebellion, and no way to detect some new objective other than street gossip."
The Kiva frowns, remembering too many who had gone into the Rebellion, and died.
"However, it is soooo easy to lure law enforcers to the scene, even easier to turn the High Inquisitor's eyes here. He thinks Nocturnus is a hot bed of, um, ... illegal activity?" She smiles at her footrest, shifts her position to look into its eye sockets. "I don't know how hot it is, but he is correct, illegal activity is still the major industry of this town.
"And now, we will continue our investigation. There is this mystery, added to another ... Deime Corinthos has been nicely quiet. Wonder what he is up to?" _________________ "It is. Deal with it." |

The lavender Kiva picks up her freshly brewed tea, and in what has become a ritual, taps the large skull with her ring as she sits on the futon.
"Have I your attention, Skull? Good. Things are changing in town ... again. Kuri'au said it last night, "We need no law in Nocturnus." She is correct, for Law drives business away. And we thrive on business, don't we, Skull?
A few visits by the Imperials, now and again, or by Nym's enforcers, are good covers ... if we have warning. Wouldn't want to give either any reason to look closer at this town, just reason to think that they have everything under control."
Xyryn gives a throaty chuckle.
"They have no control, of course. Not even that spaceport is an adequate control center, any more. Illithrya has a place where she can land, out of "sight" of the detectors.
And Jabba's influence in the area is destroyed. But the Black Sun ... they dare to continue to meddle around here. We will have to look into that. And, we should clean up those ragtag bands of wannabe pirates near town; the Goddess has put no taboo on killing those useless scum, so they will die."
Xyryn frowns at skull.
"She did put taboo on killing Griven Terras. That human scares me, much more than the High Inqusitor." The kiva's lekku give a ripple down their length, and a flip of the tips, as if throwing something away. "But, the Goddess is interested in him." _________________ "It is. Deal with it." |
