Recap of Community Council Meeting (02/27/08)

Folks,

Here is brief rundown/recap of the meeting held 02/27/08 at 9 PM EDT.

Next Community Council Meeting: 03/05/08, 9 PM EDT, The Black & White Ballroom (-3395, -1356 -- Outskirts of Nocturnus)

Attendees: Barraac, Griven, Iago, KS, Rinna, Zero, and Nuri

Quick Summary of Topics Discussed and Decisions Reached:

Nomination/selection of meeting moderator was held and Barraac/Aran/Cryil was chosen to serve for the next 3 month term (or longer if so desired and chosen). (Zero was nominated, but respectfully declined. Nuri was nominated again, but declined so that someone else could have a chance and so that he could take a break.)

The decision was made to invite all guilds to the guild/rep leader meeting that still exist.

The discussion will be continued next week, 03/05/08.

Notes:
The next meeting will be Wednesday 03/05/08 @ 9 PM EDT in the Black & White Ballroom, just outside Nocturnus. All guild leaders are encouraged to attend or at least send a representative. Other interested members of the community are invited to attend as well.

If we could get attendees to arrive on time, we can cover more topics as the meeting will end at 10 PM EDT.

Nurian Avari says, "As for my nomination, I think it's time to let someone else have a go. I have been doing this for 5 terms now, 15 months all told."

Rinna Bek'kai says, "(1) Zero is not the only one dealing with 12+ hour days - so is Nuri (and then logging in to work at home, too, and teleconferences)."
Rinna Bek'kai says, "(2) I think it would be good for others to experience running a discussion in our peer group."
Rinna Bek'kai says, "(3) It would help to dispel the feeling of one little clique trying to ''run things for everyone else''"

Barraac says, "It is my understanding that NRC and AR have removed themselves from the community, are these two guilds going to be included in this leader meeting?" in Shyriiwook.
Rinna Bek'kai raises her hand.

Rinna Bek'kai says, "I was going to ask a similar question. KS suggests all guilds existing....what about (for example) IV, who are all gone but about one alt? And also, as Cryil said, those guilds who have isolated themselves from the community, but still take advantage of"
Rinna Bek'kai says, "* take advantage of GC? Basically - what criteria determines ''existing'' guilds?"
Rinna Bek'kai says, "Done, for now"

Griven Terras says, "I'm going to address a couple of points that were brought up since I arrived."
Griven Terras says, "First, is I have not heard or read a formal statement from NRC or AR announcing their self-removal from this community."
Griven Terras says, "They have, to my knowledge, not put in their resignation."
Griven Terras says, "As such, they're still part of this community."
Griven Terras says, "They post on the forum, and they RP. Albeit mainly with each other."
Griven Terras says, "But, despite which group(s) they prefer to RP with, they are still members of this community without some sort of formal self-removal."
Griven Terras says, "As for guilds with few or no active members...."
Griven Terras says, "Invite them anyway."
Griven Terras says, "If they show, groovy. If not, whatever."
Griven Terras says, "This is a simple meeting of leaders. Not the UN council."
Griven Terras says, "As far as taking advantage of GC...."
Griven Terras says, "What is there to take advantage of? A forum."
Iago Boom shines his halo.
Rinna Bek'kai shrugs helplessly at Griven Terras.
Griven Terras says, "That's the only material thing that they can take advantage of."
Griven Terras says, "And it's being provided for free by Dew and Shensenn."
Rinna Bek'kai coughs loudly.
Griven Terras says, "If you feel that they are taking advantage of your time and energy, then you can always find a way to keep them from doing so."
Griven Terras says, "I'm done for now."
Nurian Avari says, "So you are in favor of inviting every guild, Griv? Just to make sure I have your comments right."
Griven Terras says, "The more non-destructive people, the merrier."
Griven Terras says, "(That was meant to go in group, but oh well.)"

Rinna Bek'kai pats Iago Boom on the head.
Griven Terras says, "I've always been in favor of inviting every guild."
Nurian Avari says, "Just making sure it was clear."

Rinna Bek'kai says, "Was it decided that Zero would represent the unguilded members of the community? Or are all unguilded people invited on their own?"
Rinna Bek'kai doesn't recall.
Nurian Avari says, "Zero volunteered to represent them at the first meeting."
Rinna Bek'kai says, "Was that a done deal?"
Iago Boom raises his hand.
xen'ya says, "I believe it was..."
Nurian Avari says, "No vote was taken on it."
Nurian Avari says, "But I don't know how to really make it official."
Rinna Bek'kai says, "That's why I wasn't sure if it was ''official'' or not."
Nurian Avari says, "We can't really poll all of the unguilded to see if they are okay with it."
Griven Terras says, "!"
Rinna Bek'kai says, "Because, for example, Griven's not guilded - what if he wants to come? Dew's not guilded, what if....wait..."

Rinna Bek'kai laughs out loud.

Iago Boom says, "Considering Griv's statements on guild invites, I suggest we allow any and all unguilded to show up. We don't appear to mind a lot of minds and voices working together."
xen'ya says, "SECOND"
Iago Boom puzzles over his own thoughts.
Iago Boom says, "If they show, they can coordinate and represent the others, among themselves"
Rinna Bek'kai says, "??"
Iago Boom says, "I'll allow it to be a motion, if Griv agrees."
Iago Boom grins.
Griven Terras says, "heh..."
Nurian Avari says, "Griv?"
Griven Terras says, "As the only unguilded person in this meeting, I think it's fine for Zero to represent me."
Griven Terras says, "If he can't show up, then I'll come."
Griven Terras says, "But, as far as having all the unguilded come...."
Griven Terras says, "That's a double-edged sword."
Rinna Bek'kai sniffs sadly at -Zero-.
Rinna Bek'kai shows -Zero- her approval.
Griven Terras says, "On one hand, all those without a rep get to speak for themselves. On the other, there's the possibility of too much commotion."
Griven Terras says, "So, I move that we vote between the two possibilities."
Griven Terras says, "Invite all unguilded, or just have the unguilded rep show up."
Iago Boom raises his hand.

Rinna Bek'kai says, "I have to ask this question: If we invite the guild leaders (or their reps) and any and all unguilded, how is that really any different from these meetings? That seems pointless to me."
Rinna Bek'kai says, "If it's a LEADER meeting, then make it a meeting of leaders, and allow one rep for the unguilded."
Griven Terras nods at Rinna Bek'kai.

Iago Boom shakes his head negatively at you.
Iago Boom turns circles while brandishing his weapon at the general area.

The meeting you're planning is a GUILD LEADER meeting.

If you're not a GUILD LEADER, or nominated Rep, you're not invited.

If you're not in a GUILD, you're not invited (That's what community meetings are for)

i fail to see where the confusion was there?

Dew has a LOT to do with the setup and running of this site.

I think you need to give him a bit more respect.

regardless of his "guild leadership" status, Dew has been a guild leader, and is a community leader. He is important to planning and implementation of events, and anything related to these boards.

He's a guild of one.

Too many meetings, what is the saying? "Keep it simple stupid" big grin

War, I appreciate the ego boost, but I think Rinna was just kidding, I dont go to those meetings cuz my RL is full of meetings, I log onto SWG to play the game, if RP leads me to a meeting so be it, but otherwise...not for me.

I still feel the forum is a better place to discuss any and all issues. Meetings become redundant.

There are many people who don't like or don't use the forums for various reasons. There are many people who don't like meetings. They are both tools that can increase communication in the community.

Meetings may become redundant, but the same can be said of threads here in the forum. How many times do we see threads pop up again and again? How many threads go around and around in circles?

There are advantages and disadvantages to each.

My point? There is a place for both.

All this talk about improving communication and talk about people not doing anything to stop the decline of the community, yet when some people are trying to help, trying to find a way to fix things, it's criticized. That doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
