If any of you have pre-ordered, you can now log into and play the "live" game.
And if any of you are playing, look me up some time. Name's Scirocco Esposito, on the Roberts server. A Pirate, of course. Arr! _________________

I tried to play the Beta the last week I was in Florida but Fileplanet didn't want to cooperate with the downloads.
In retrospect I am kind of wondering what the next big "community" game will be. Thus far it is looking like Conan though. But I'll let ya know if I ever give this one a go, Deg. _________________

I sense this game will not live for very long. It just does not have the right stuff to be an MMO and more of a single player game with an online function. _________________

Yeah, I didn't note a whole lot of interaction, or the real requirement for interaction, with other people. Especially with the AH being so convenient. _________________ "Unthinking respect for authority is the greatest enemy of truth." - Albert Einstein

Even SWG has turned into a single-player MMO.
Still, I think PotBS is going to be around for awhile. It's got a big following, for one, lots of publicity, and there are some great game features that no other MMO has done (role play story arcs and such). And the Dev team are a good bunch of people, very down-to-earth, so they're easy to get along with. And not to mention-- user content. Who doesn't want to see their creations in a game? _________________

I don't think that an MMO playing like a single player game is a bad thing. Single player games have better storylines, and sometimes it's nice to just go off and play on your own. _________________ I like my coffee like I like my women. Ground up and in the freezer.

Then we are talking about a oxymoron here. MMO means Massive Multiplayer last time I checked. To me at least it looks like a Massive RTS. But like I said I was looking for a lot more when I first started and was disappointed greatly. _________________

The first step on the road to disappointment is having expectations. _________________ I like my coffee like I like my women. Ground up and in the freezer.

You can have massive multiplayers playing alone in more of a single player game. Even WoW, if you aren't into a guild, instancing or raiding is pretty much a single player game with lots of other people as 'background noise'.
EQ2 at one point was very group dependant and they lost people in droves so even multiplayer games are by and large single player until you get into group quests, instances and/or raiding.
Star Wars at its best (population-wise) was when as a single player you could get buffs, insane armor and take on anything the game had to offer by yourself. During the CU while we lost the insane armor and buffs got awesome templating and could still take on most content alone.
Most MMO's I've played have largely been single player games during the leveling process (group quests not withstanding) and no real stress on interaction until or unless you want to get into high end group content (instances) or end game content (raids).
Probably one of the things that appeals about Star Trek is getting a bunch of people together to man a ship or Warhammer where you'll have literally hundreds of people working together to defend cities. _________________ Forum guarded by Blast Cannons three days a week. Guess which days.

Not everyone wants to group up. When you pay for an MMO, you should have the choice-- it's your money, play how you want, you know?
Just because PotBS doesn't force you to group constantly, that doesn't mean you can't group up. I group up with my society (guild) quite a bit and we'll just go sailing around the Caribbean, attacking and pillaging any NPC ships we come across. Sure, we don't need to... but we can, so why not? It's fun. And you can get quite into it, especially when you're all shouting out in pirate slang as you board the enemy vessel.
Whether or not you're forced to group up in PotBS, it's still fun to do it. And it's fun not to do it. Sometimes I'd rather just go out by myself and do some questing or hunting-- and I can.
Of course, there are a number of missions that require a group.
And if you really always want to group up, you can visit an NPC to set your "skill rating" (or whatever it's called) higher so more enemies and less allies will spawn in missions, and high-level enemies, so it's harder and you'll pretty much always need a group for them. _________________

No need for that. It's just that everyone has their own opinions, and their own ideas on what makes a "good" MMO. _________________
