"While we are free to choose our actions, we are not free to choose the consequences of our actions." -Stephen Covey

Roleplaying is an art, and art imitates life. Being veterans to real life, you are all familiar that your actions in life will have consequences and repercussions. Armed with that knowledge, you don't go stealing things that aren't yours, or kill the people that made you mad earlier in the day (I hope).

It's important to keep that same knowledge in mind while you are roleplaying with others. Just like in real life, you are interacting with another human being, and not just a mass of pixels. As such, any negative actions that you take on that person will prompt a very human response.

Take, for example, the act of thievery. In real life, if you are caught stealing, you will likely be taken to jail pending a criminal trial. In game you are also likely be taken to jail, but since trials are hard to pull off, how your captors choose to punish you is up to them. Also, if you are caught stealing in a hostile environment, you are likely to be shot then and there.

Whatever the consequences of your actions are, it is your responsibility to accept them. Do you have to submit to capture? No, you can fight back or try and talk your way out of it. You cannot, however, simply ignore the fact that there are several guards who are trying to subdue you. This is not only rude, but it is bad roleplay. Take what comes your way, and roll with it accordingly.

Be a thief or a murderer if you want, but do so at your own risk.
