For those of you that don't know there has been a reoccouring writing contest on the official SWG forums called Galactic Tales. I'm stickying this in the hopes of encouraging a few of you to participate in it since I know your great story writers.
You will find a discussion post and the official story post in the Role Playing section of the Official Forums always for the dates it runs.
Roleplaying Forum Here
Here is Virrago's standardized rules for each writing contest:
Star Wars has elicited volumes of fan fiction from all over the world. We all know that Star Wars Galaxies has a vast number of really talented writers who post stories daily. Since we have such an abundance of talent on our forums, we thought we would draw it out and showcase fictional pieces created by our players.
Galactic Tales is a friendly writing competition that will be held every other Wednesday. Here are the rules for participation:
- A 500 word limit will be strictly enforced. Any entries over 500 words will be disqualified (and removed from the thread!).
- Each week, a different theme will be provided that your story will have to adhere to. We want to see how well you can write with a little direction!
- Each time a Galactic Tales competition takes place, only one story per person will be accepted
- No Edits after 30 minutes of first post.
- Every time a Galactic Tales is thrown, two threads will be posted here on the message board – The Galactic Tales Stories thread and the Galactic Tales Discussion thread. You may NOT under any circumstances talk about or post anything other than your story in the Galactic Tales Stories thread. If you do, your own story may be disqualified as a result (and your comments removed). If you’re not participating but posting in the Stories thread, action by a moderator may be taken against you.
The winner of Galactic Tales will receive a special Galactic Tales forum icon diplaying their creative writing prowess to the rest of the community!
So get those creative writing juices flowing…we look forward to seeing what Galactic Tales you come up with!
Good luck!
The above will always be followed by the current contest's theme. Again, I encourage you all to try this. Happy Writing. _________________

Notice any mention of who's judging said contest? I've got stories I've never posted on the SWG forums, but I'm not gonna rush out and have my writing criticized by...programmers, moderators and CSRs. _________________ ''Don't be mad at me because you just fell for the old Wookiee prisoner gag.'' -Sawyer - Lost

I'm pretty sure Virrago juggles this with his own time. So, it'll be largely judged by our Community Relations Guru; but I believe he looks at the Feedback/Discussion thread from other participants as well when making his decision.
While I haven't won one yet I still try to participate in it. One of the few things a Dev have done that appeals to our inner writers. Again, highly encourage any of you with the writing bug to give this a shot every once in awhile. _________________

Even with only 5 participants I get my ass kicked!
More of you should try for these. It sounds like every other Tuesday or so is when you should check for new story competitions. _________________

Tough topic, but I gave it an effort. I thought about doing a piece from the Janitor's perspective..but then remembered the humorous quests I had to do from some of the NPCs there and couldn't resist. _________________ Forum guarded by Blast Cannons three days a week. Guess which days.

Nah. Going by Batty math. If I look like I'm coming out ahead it usually just means the other person's umpteen buddies haven't gotten out of school or off work to cast their vote yet. At least with how the votes go on these I get the feeling the majority of people actually aren't reading and picking as much as Big V would like to happen.
When I see a 100, 25, 15, 67... sort of poll. Then I'll get excited. _________________

WTH?

All votes were wiped and the poll was reset. No clue what happened, but Batty was ahead. _________________ Rinna/Rinna'

Batty was way ahead with like 31 votes last time I had looked. I'm sure one of the forum trolls there who believes they are the next Orson Scott Card cried cheat or something. _________________ Forum guarded by Blast Cannons three days a week. Guess which days.

The poll doesn't even matter, now, if Virago's picking the winner. *confused* _________________ ''Don't be mad at me because you just fell for the old Wookiee prisoner gag.'' -Sawyer - Lost

Rinna surprised me with that last night on Xfire. Not sure what could have happened. I know Darkstar made a post on the Gorath boards trying to help me win I think. I quickly made a post to only vote for me if they thought I'd really written the better story.
That is the only thing I can really think of unless there was a forum error this weekend allowing people to vote multiple times? My gears have been spinning as to what Big V is talking about. But, aye, if he simply reset the vote and is picking it himself sometime today it makes sense that the reset poll people are voting on since last night is null and void anyway.
At any rate I think it remains a pretty cool activity on the official boards for as long as Big V keeps running it. Participate! _________________

Congrats to Cym! He won it!
*edit*
Actually re-reading some of the comments in the discussion I think, indeed, Darkstar may have been the culprit. Didn't check to see if he posted in any of the other Galaxy forums for the other writers but it does look like he had a beef with one of the other writers. _________________
